Going Green
Pools by Henny Henden is going green, do yourself a favor and do away with harmful chemicals. The overdosing of chlorine, algecides, shocks is harmful to the environment, yourselves and most important it is harmful to your children. How many times has a child jumped in to your pool immediately or shortly there after someone has dumped shock or algecide in that same pool. What if I told you that you can save money and have an environmentally safe pool for your children to swim in at the same time. Its true and 70 percent of the pools that are being built today is a salt water pool, you heard right salt water is the future. Regular table salt is being changed into sodium hydrochloride just by being passed through a chlorine generator. Sodium hydrochloride is a form of a chlorine gas which is a safe, very affective sanitizer and it is so much more gentle on your skin and very safe and gentle on the environment, and in the end it is much easier on your pocket. Salt chlorinates use common table salt to produce all of the chlorine that your pool needs, safely, effectively, and automatically. It has the same sanitation performance as manual chlorine addition without the drawbacks so there is no need for customers to buy, transport, and store chlorine compounds. The salt chlorine generator units have diagnostic capabilities including cell life tracking, and easy to ready displays that are homeowner friendly, push button operations, automatic shut-off and, self cleaning cells helps to protect the longevity of the unit. The salt water systems have the capability to communicate with automation which means you can run your pool be remote control. The automation unit also offers advanced control technology to suit individual needs including screen logic interface users enables automation users to control their pool and spa features using wireless color touch devices including the Iphone, and the Ipod touch mobile digital devices.

Energy Saving Pumps
LIPA has been urging homeowners to cut down on engergy use. Long Island has some of the highest electrical costs in the country, the reason being supply and demand. We use up so much electric that LIPA can not keep up with our demands. One of the major reasons for this is pool and spa pumps. Many of our pools on Long Island have two or more pumps, some even more than that. It's the number one reason for high electric bills. LIPA has been working hand and hand with all of the major pool equipment manufacturers in creating pool pumps with several speeds and fan-cooled motors. Companies such as Pentair and Hayward are coming out with variable speed pumps that run on seventy five percent less electricity than the one or two horsepower pool pumps of yesterday. LIPA is offering a four hundred dollar rebate to the homeowner who purchases one of these pumps through an authorized installer. The fact that the pool pump cuts your electric bill in one quarter means that the pool pump can pay for itself in two years. One of the major selling points of these pumps is that they are so quiet that if you are standing next to one you can barely tell its on. The pump is also cool to the touch, even after running for 24 hours straight. There are several options that these pumps come equipped with, the touch pads on top of these pumps can program in several running scenarios. You can program the pump to run on low speed in the morning, also you can program it to ramp up in the afternoon during the hotter hours of the day, and you can kick it back to low speed as the day winds down. The pump can act as its own time clock. Another way to set the pump up is to run it for 24 hours on low speed instead of running your one or two horsepower pump for eight hours on regular speed and still pay a lot less for electricity. |
